Both are weatherproof, both are widely used — but they're built differently and suited to different applications. Here's how to choose.
What Are Weatherpack Connectors?
Weatherpack connectors were developed by General Motors and are the standard weatherproof connector used in most domestic automotive OEM applications. You'll find them throughout GM, Ford, and Chrysler vehicles on sensors, solenoids, and engine harness connections.

- Current rating: Up to ~20A per circuit
- Locking: TPA (terminal position assurance) secondary lock

What Are Deutsch DT Connectors?
Deutsch DT connectors are the heavy-duty standard for trucks, trailers, agricultural equipment, construction machinery, and military vehicles.

Which One Should You Use?
Choose Weatherpack when: repairing OEM automotive harnesses, wiring sensors or solenoids on cars and light trucks, or when cost is a priority for light-duty applications.
Choose Deutsch DT when: wiring trailers, semi trucks, agricultural or construction equipment, or any application with high vibration, moisture, or extreme temperatures.
Installation Tips
- Use the right crimper — Weatherpack and Deutsch require different dies. Wrong crimper = failed connection.
- Install wire seals before crimping — they slide onto the wire before the terminal is crimped and can't be added after.
- Seat terminals fully — push each terminal until it clicks. Partially seated terminals back out under vibration.
- Install the wedge lock / TPA last — after all terminals are seated.
